Gregory Gorbett, PhD is a seasoned fire and explosion expert with more than two decades of experience, specializing in fire and explosion investigations, computer fire modeling, fire protection, failure analysis, and fire protection systems. A trusted leader in his field, Dr. Gorbett has served as a testifying expert in numerous civil and criminal trials (state and federal jurisdictions).

Dr. Gorbett currently serves on the board of directors for the International Association of Arson Investigators and also serves as a principal member of NFPA 1033-Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigators. He has also served as a director for the National Association of Fire Investigators and as a member of the Fire and Explosion Investigation subcommittee for the Organization of Scientific Area Committees, supporting efforts by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Department of Justice (DOJ) to strengthen forensic science in the United States.
He holds a PhD in Fire Protection Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He also earned two Master of Science degrees—one in Executive Fire Service Leadership, and the other in Fire Protection Engineering. Prior to his graduate studies, Dr. Gorbett earned two Bachelor of Science degrees in Fire Science and Forensic Science.
Dr. Gorbett is a certified fire investigator (IAAI-CFI), fire and explosion investigator (CFEI), vehicle fire investigator (CVFI), fire protection specialist (CFPS), and certified fire investigation instructor (CFII). He is also a private investigator licensed in Kentucky and Michigan.
