Stuart Gurrea is a Managing Director at Secretariat with over two decades of experience in economic consulting. Dr. Gurrea holds an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Seville, Spain, and both a Master’s and a Ph.D. in economics from Northwestern University. He specializes in industrial organization, financial economics, and econometrics, and has provided expert testimony in U.S. Federal and state courts, and at arbitration.
Dr. Gurrea combines theoretical modeling with quantitative techniques to address complex economic questions across a wide range of areas, including breach of contract, valuation, securities fraud, discrimination, antitrust and intellectual property. His work often involves the construction of large data sets, and the use of survey, statistical, econometric, and simulation techniques.
Dr. Gurrea’s experience includes quantifying economic damages individually and on a class-wide basis. His expertise extends to calculating statutory damages and assessing punitive damages. Dr. Gurrea’s consulting engagements often involve conducting impact evaluations to ascertain the causal effect of an intervention, such as policies or regulations, on outcomes of interest. For instance, Dr. Gurrea has analyzed the impact of alleged discriminatory policies on college admissions.
Dr. Gurrea has conducted economic analyses in the context of legal disputes, policy making, and business strategy, and has served as an expert for plaintiffs and defendants. Dr. Gurrea has been retained by individuals, corporations, industry associations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. While attending Northwestern University, Dr. Gurrea worked as an investment research analyst. He also collaborated in numerous research projects involving the construction of data sets and the estimation of econometric models.
