Dr. Garner has more than 15 years of research & development and consulting experience in power generation technologies, energy storage technologies (batteries, thermal, wind, and hydro), infrastructure construction, manufacturing, aviation propulsion, and consumer/hardware electronics. He brings robust expertise in leading cross-functional, interdisciplinary engineering, safety, and incident teams in the investigation and analysis of complex incidents, both domestically and internationally.

Dr. Garner applies his expertise as a mechanical engineer to the scientific investigation of incidents, both internationally and domestically, involving failures of combustion and mechanical systems, thermal fluid systems and heat exchangers, turbines, and boilers, as well as the investigation of fires and explosions.

Dr. Garner’s experience spans a wide range of equipment, applications, and industries including, agricultural, agrochemical, petrochemical, and power generation systems including combined cycle power plants, biomass boilers, fossil fuel boilers (e.g., gas/coal), waste-to-energy (energy-from-waste) boilers, turbine and turbomachinery equipment, concentrating solar power system, mining and mineral processing, water treatment and processing, and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Further, Dr. Garner has investigated claims related to combustion emissions and incomplete or incorrect commissioning of plant systems in various industries. In addition to these industrial applications, he also applies his expertise and experience to issues arising with various consumer products and residential appliances.

Dr. Garner is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and National Association of Fire Investigators (NAFI), and also participates in the following associations:
