Dr. Ahmed is a leading product safety and crisis management expert trusted by clients around the world to advise on regulatory and compliance matters, product design and safety, and high-stakes scenarios involving product failures, recalls, and corrective measures. With nearly 20 years of cross‑sector experience, she brings specialized expertise in material selection and analysis, risk assessment, multi‑scale failure analysis, fracture mechanics, and destructive and non‑destructive evaluation.
Dr. Farah Ahmed has extensive experience advising global clients on the performance, reliability, and safety of products, materials, components, and engineering systems. She regularly supports clients navigating regulatory and compliance matters; product design, safety, and prototyping considerations; and crisis‑response scenarios involving product failures, recalls, and corrective measures. Her industry experience spans consumer products, manufacturing, electronics, batteries, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, automotive systems, mining, aerospace applications, medical forensics, food and beverage, and national space agencies.
Dr. Ahmed is highly experienced in applying both destructive and non‑destructive evaluation methods. She has deep expertise in CT, SEM, and optical imaging, as well as mechanical testing methodologies used to evaluate fracture, fatigue, wear, and structural integrity.
Before joining Secretariat, Dr. Ahmed served as Principal in the Materials Science and Electrochemistry practice for a large multinational engineering and scientific consulting firm. Prior to that, she led the Imaging and Analysis division at the Natural History Museum in London, where she delivered scientific consulting, research services, and bespoke experimental design for academic, industrial, and government partners. She performed in‑situ experimental design, validated complex datasets, and produced microstructural development studies that accelerated product development cycles and improved engineering decision‑making.
Dr. Ahmed’s academic background centers on multi-scale, high‑resolution studies examining the failure of complex models in relation to load. During her academic career, Dr. Ahmed pioneered innovative techniques for imaging and analyzing fracture mechanisms, structural performance, and failures across a range of materials. She is a recognized world expert in X-Ray Computed Tomography, having completed her PhD under the mentorship of the technology’s inventor.
Dr. Ahmed is the Founder and President of Tomography for Scientific Advancement (ToScA), an international society dedicated to advancing 3D and 4D imaging science, where she regularly delivers keynotes, moderates sessions, and shapes program content that unites academic researchers, industrial practitioners, and instrumentation developers. She has also served in leadership and advisory roles on national technical committees, including the Engineering and Physical Research Council (EPSRC) and the National Physical Laboratory (NPL).
