Mr. Tobis specializes in preparing business valuation and economic damages reports for commercial litigation and international trade and investment disputes. He has served as a business valuator, external auditor, financial consultant and tax advisor for private and public companies, regulatory bodies, and governments.

He has more than 15 years of experience where he has served as a business valuator, external auditor, financial consultant and tax advisor for private and public companies, regulatory bodies, and governments.

Mr. Tobis’s work experience covers assets and business interests on every continent, spanning multiple industry groups, including: mining, oil & gas, energy and infrastructure projects, financial services, telecom, real estate and gaming. He has prepared numerous expert opinion reports on valuation and economic damages issues in disputes before Canadian, US, UK and Australian, domestic courts, commercial arbitrations, and investor-state arbitrations under many forums including the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He has been qualified as an expert witness and has provided expert testimony on valuation and economic damages issues on multiple occasions, including in the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, and at the World Bank in Washington DC. 

Mr. Tobis has written several articles and chapters in books on valuation and the quantification of economic damages, he has provided educational seminars to various professional interest groups, and he was a lead course instructor for one of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators’ mandatory courses entitled “Level IV – Special Topics in Business Valuation”.

Mr. Tobis has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA), a Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) and a Qualified Valuator under the Canadian Institute of Mining’s Valuation Standards and Guidelines (CIMVAL).
