Mr. Hutchins’ damages related experience includes providing economic consulting and expert witness services to clients involved in both general commercial litigation matters and intellectual property disputes such as patent infringement, trademark infringement and trade secrets misappropriation.

Mr. Hutchins’ investigative work has typically involved evaluating allegations of either financial fraud (e.g., asset misappropriation), or financial reporting irregularities (e.g., earnings management and revenue recognition).

Mr. Hutchins has worked on projects spanning a variety of industries including agriculture, computer hardware, financial services, oil and gas, manufacturing, medical devices, pharmaceutical, residential construction, telecommunications, and water infrastructure.

Examples of engagements that Mr. Hutchins’ has served as either a damages consultant or expert witness on include:

  • Patent infringement disputes in the audio equipment, computer, housing, medical devices, and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Trademark infringement matters in the medical devices, oil and gas, restaurant, telecommunications, and water infrastructure industries.
  • Trade secret misappropriation disputes in the agriculture, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries.
  • Breach of contract disputes in the educational, entertainment, fast food, financial services, packaging, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and toy industries.
  • Engagements alleging that the U.S. government’s rescue of AIG and Chrysler involved an unconstitutional taking of the plaintiffs’ respective property rights in violation of the fifth amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
  • An FDIC engagement involving the failure of a multibillion-dollar (US$) bank and the resulting bankruptcy of its former holding company.
  • Construction disputes involving claims for acceleration, delay, termination, and suspension related costs.
