Mr. Smajlovic brings more than 24 years of experience and specializes in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration. He has significant experience in damages quantum and other financial, economic, forensic, and accounting-related analyses in the context of disputes, valuations, audits, and transactions.
Mr. Smajlovic has led engagements and provided testimony in international arbitration matters held under the auspices of various arbitral forums including ICSID, ICDR, LCIA, SCC, ICC, PCA, and SIAC, among others. He holds particular technical expertise in valuation methodologies including the income, market, cost, and hybrid-based approaches. His experience spans a wide variety of industries and asset types including real estate development, upstream offshore and onshore oil and gas, renewables, conventional power plants, nuclear power plants, chemical plants, mining, ferroalloy and silica manganese plants, iron ore mines, telecommunications, and various LBO-type investments.
Prior to joining Secretariat, Mr. Smajlovic held positions in the Disputes and Investigations practice of Alvarez & Marsal, Financial Economics practice of CRA International, and in the Assurance practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he provided audit-related services for various clients. He also spent almost a decade working in the Middle East and Eastern Europe in operational and supply chain roles.
Mr. Smajlovic is fluent in English, Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian, and holds a working proficiency in Russian, Bulgarian, and Macedonian.
